How Much Money Does Candle Making Cost?

That is a smart question, especially these days! One of the reasons I love candle making is that it is both a craft and a preparedness activity. You can color and scent your candles, put them in fancy molds, decorate them, and go completely crafty-cute with them. Once you’re done, you’ve created a beautiful work of art or fancy gift that ALSO provides light and warmth.

Since I don’t have a lot of money for craft projects, I save my pennies to purchase wax and wicking and make candles several times a year. The cost for these items varies by year and region, however here are some budget-friendly attributes of candle making:

  • You can purchase all the supplies like wax and wicking in bulk to save money.
  • If you keep bees, you can supplement your wax supplies from your hives each year.
  • Likewise, you can save money on candle molds by making your own (instructions provided in the book).
  • You only need to purchase molds, pots, and other basic equipment one time.
  • Storing candles with your emergency lighting supplies cuts down on the number of expensive battery-operated light equipment you need to purchase. With a match and a candle, you have light!
  • Homemade candles can be used in place of expensive, store-bought gifts for holidays and birthdays. Gift your homemade candles every year!
